Music City Bowl: Prediction and Preview – Northwestern-Kentucky

by Don Bleeker – Wannamakeabet Staff Writer

When you think of Kentucky athletics, not many people think about football. It’s usually basketball that pops up into their heads. That being said, the Kentucky football program has put together a respectable season in 2017.  However, their season will not end in a bowl win.

Northwestern has quietly had another solid year. They are seeking their first 10 win season since 2015. While that may not seem like a long while, Coach Pat Fitzgerald has been hellbent on bringing this storied program back to life. Today he adds another notch in that direction, beating up on the Wildcats, in another bowl victory.

While Kentucky has put together 7 wins, nothing they do is impressive. They rank 146th in points scored per game and are ranked 208th in points against. Clearly they are in the middle and bottom of the pack in the two most important categories in football. Northwestern is on a a complete tear right now, having won 7 in a row. In those 7 games, they are 7-0 ATS. Kentucky comes in reeling, having lost 4 of their last 6 and is without star defensive end Denzil Ware.

Look for Northwestern to come out fired up and motivated to get that all important 10th win of the season. We have a very good team that is piping hot, against a mediocre team that is in the mud right now. Usually doesn’t take much thought process in a game like this. I expect a big Northwestern win.

Pick: Northwestern -8.5
