2019 NFL Week 2 Predictions

There were some shocking results but no major upsets in a wild Week 1 around the NFL.  Survivor pools held on to their shorts as both Seattle and Philly dodged major bullets.  And the more things change the more they stay the same.  The New England Patriots still look like the class of the league.  And now Tom Brady gets to add Antonio Brown to the arsenal.  Here’s a quick look at each game from the 2019 Week 2 Predictions odds and a pick ATS for each game.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Panthers -6.5

Matchup of former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks who each won a national championship in college as well.  Yes, we’re talking about Jameis Winston and Carolina’s Cam Newton. Neither played well in a Week 1 loss. The teams split last year, each winning at home.  This is a field goal game and I like the Bucs to cover.

San Francisco at Cincinnati
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: PK
Each team could be missing its running back here in San Francisco’s Tevin Coleman and Cincinnati’s Joe Mixon. The both suffered an ankle injury in Week 1 with Coleman’s potentially serious. The Niners won in Tampa while the Bengals lost in Seattle. Cincy already is without top receiver AJ Green due to injury but the Bengals looked very competitive in a tough road game and I think they get the win this week. Pick: Bengals.

LA Chargers at Detroit Lions
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Chargers -2.5
The Lions “lost” 27-27 in Arizona on Sunday, blowing a 24-6 fourth-quarter lead even though the game ended in a tie. There’s little excuse for that performance especially against a rookie quarterback who struggled for 3.5 quarters. The Chargers didn’t miss Pro Bowl running back Melvin Gordon too much in Week 1 as they were overtime winners behind Austin Ekeler. Gordon’s primary replacement had three touchdowns, including the winner.  The chargers are the better team here and I think they win a close game and cover.

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Packers -2.5
One of these teams will have sole possession of first place in the NFC North (unless they tie) as both won in Week 1. Green Bay on extra rest after an upset in Chicago last Thursday, while Minnesota looked terrific Sunday in a dominant effort vs. Atlanta. Pick: Packers get the win and I also like the Under, wherever the number ends up closing.

Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Titans -3
Former Colts quarterback Andrew Luck was 11-0 in his career against the Titans so they probably are thrilled they don’t have to see him now.  Can Jacoby Brissett fill his shoes anyway?  Possibly.  Indy was an overtime loser at the Chargers in Week 1 and fought hard all game despite horrible problems in the kicking game.  Meanwhile, Tennessee had a shocking blowout win at Cleveland and looked very tough.  Might be time for revenge without Luck behind center. Pick: Titans.

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Patriots -18
Biggest spread of the early season and could be the biggest we see all year for a road team. New England will see the debut of Antonio Brown after he signed over the weekend in what could be the most dominant, mentally dysfunctional receiving corps in the league. Scary to think that only makes the Pats better after what they did to Pittsburgh in Week 1. Miami was flat-out embarrassed 59-10 by Baltimore and probably wouldn’t beat Clemson or Alabama.  All of this points to one thing in a league filled with parody.  New England always struggles here.  Maybe it’s the air, maybe it’s the water.  Who knows.  The Pick:  Miami.

Buffalo Bills at NY Giants
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Bills -2
The Giants weren’t all that competitive in Week 1 loss in Dallas and it’s only a matter of time before Eli gets the hook and they switch to rookie quarterback Daniel Jones. The Bills committed four turnovers and were down 16-0 late in the third quarter of Week 1 and the Jets and yet still won 17-16 but the Giants will find a way to win this game and I like them as a slight home dog.

Seattle Seahawks at Pittsburgh Steelers
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Steelers -3.5
The Steelers looked absolutely overmatched in Sunday night’s blowout loss in New England. Think the Steelers miss Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell now?  Don’t worry about it.  It’s a long season.  And Pittsburgh has one of the best home records in the league.  This line smells like a big win for the Steelers. And especially because Seattle was rather sloppy yet still managed to escape at home vs. Cincinnati. Pick: Steelers.

Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins;

NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Steelers -5.5

Dallas at Washington (-5.5): Washington outplayed Philadelphia for a half on Sunday but unfortunately for the Redskins there were two halves in the game and Philly rallied to win. The Cowboys had little trouble with the Giants as Dak Prescott had a monster game. Pick: Cowboys.

Arizona Cardinals at Baltimore Ravens (-13.5)
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Ravens -13.5
Another matchup of Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks in Arizona rookie Kyler Murray and Ravens’ second-year QB Lamar Jackson. Jackson had the game of his pro life Sunday as the Ravens set a franchise-record with 59 points in an absolute rout of the Miami Dolphins. But this is a different week.  The masses will pile on Baltimore and they’ll likely make it interesting.  13.5 is a lot of wood to chop.  Pick: Cardinals.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Texans -9.5
The Jaguars’ season already might be wrecked as they lost starting quarterback Nick Foles to a broken clavicle in a Week 1 loss to Kansas City and lost the game.  Houston can’t get out of their own way with all that talent.  This is an ugly game and a hard one to Handicap but it’s feeling like a Texas blowout.  The Pick: Texans.

Kansas City Chiefs at Oakland Raiders
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Chiefs -8
Short week for Oakland which hosted Denver on Monday night and looked fantastic.  Of course never even got to see Antonio Brown play a single snap for the team despite giving up two draft picks in trade.  But boy did they try and succeed to show the world that they can play without him. The Chiefs routed the Jags on Sunday but lost top WR Tyreek Hill to an injury. Pick: Raiders.

Chicago Bears at Denver Broncos
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: PK
The Bears were awesome on defense but putrid on offense last Thursday in a 10-3 home upset loss to Green Bay.  Now they go up against their former defensive coordinator in new Broncos head coach Vic Fangio. You wanna talk about an Under, this is it.  Denver seems to have a lot more problems across the board than do the Bears and I think Chicago gets the road win here. Pick: Bears.

New Orleans Saints at LA Rams
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Rams -3
Rematch of last season’s NFC title game won by the Rams in New Orleans because of a missed pass interference call late in the game. We all know the Saints should have won that game. They are on a short week after hosting Houston on Monday with an insane finish and a last second field goal. This game goes flying over the total and the Saints get their revenge from the NFC title game with extra motivation.  The Pick: Rams.

Philadelphia Eagles at Atlanta Falcons
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Eagles -1
Eagles have won the past two in this series in a low-scoring affair thanks to a late goal-line stand. Philly rallied and came back from near disaster to beat Washington in Week 1, while Atlanta was pushed around badly at Minnesota. This will be a close one but I like the bigger bird here. Pick: Eagles.

Cleveland Browns at NY Jets
NFL Week 2 Wannamakeabet.com Odds: Jets -2.5
New Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. returns to the New York City are. Both these teams disappointed everyone in Week 1 in losses to the Titans and Bills.  But with all due respoect, the Titans are a much better team than the Bills are.  And the Browns are better than the Jets.  respectively. Pick: Browns.
