Week 18 Podcast Picks – Who Wins The #1 Seed in the NFC?
Podcast Picks – Hosts Jack and Cello missed going 4-1 last week by thismuch as two 3.5 point dogs (Atlanta and Denver) both went to OT and lost by a TD and a final score of 30-24. Pittsburgh Steelers +2.5 over Cincinnati Bengals –
Both hosts on the pod liked Cincy all week and then reversed course and took the Steelers getting points at home against a division rival. We finally got a meaningful field goal kick from Boz last night in Pittsburgh and would have had another attempt had “mouth” caught the ball on the final drive. The Bengals ended the year on a hot streak but will need Denver to lose today to get into the playoffs.
Denver Broncos -10 over Kansas City Chiefs
Speaking of Denver, Andy Reid has made it clear that he’s sitting his starters for this one and the Broncos need the win if they’re going to the post-season. We would rather not have to lay this many points but it likely won’t matter as we’ll get a hyper focused effort on both sides of the ball from Denver while the Chiefs coaching staff just looks to get to the locker room and protect key assets.
Tampa Bay Bucs -14 over New Orleans Saints
The Bucs have a win-and-in scenario today at home and face a Saints team that comes in hobbling with a third string QB, both running backs down, stud receivers down, offensive line decimated, and backups all over the defense. Despite being a division game, it’s hard to imagine the Saints being competitive in this one given how much is on the line for the Bucs.
Atlanta Falcons -8 over Carolina Panthers
The Falcons lost a heartbreaker last Sunday to the Commanders but have so much to be excited about with rookie QB Penix. Today they’ll have to win and wait to see if the Bucs blow up against the Saints but they should have no problem putting up a lot of points against this Carolina defense just like the Bucs did last week. The Falcon defense has looked great the past month and should continue that today as both starting RBs for Carolina are done. Coach Raheem Morris is still having nightmares about going to overtime with two timeouts in his pocket but todays convincing win will help get the taste of that horrible decision out of his mouth as he heads to the off-season.
Minnesota Vikings +2.5 over Detroit Lions
We think the Vikings are the more well rounded, complete team in this battle for home field and the #1 seed in the NFC. The Lions struggle to get a pass rush or stop anyone on defense and Goff has struggled this year when facing a pass rush like this one. The Lions may be the slightly better team when healthy but they’re not (yet) and we think the Vikings either win or cover in what should be a track meet (read: over) season finale of the 2024 season.
