Monday Morning QB 12/30 – Colts Dug Their Own Grave

Wannamakeabettors,

Week #17 of the NFL season and 31 Bowl Games, including the first round of the CFP playoffs and something called the Snoop Dog Bowl, are already in the books at Wannamakeabet.com. Hopefully you didn’t spend the beginning of holiday season cursing at your TV and leaving family members wondering about your sanity.

Invitations are still out for the College Bowl Bonanza.  Entry is free and we’re giving away $100 cash. Member “dougie fresh” still has the lead with only 130K so plenty of time to get in and take over.  And don’t forget to get into the December All Sports Cash league. We just gave everyone a fresh 50K.  Entry is also free and you win cash based on how many active members are in the league. Click here for details.

NFL Recap and Quick Playoff Thoughts:

– The Chiefs locked up the #1 seed in the AFC by humiliating the Steelers on Christmas day.  This partially ruined Christmas for long time member and my podcast co-host CUSEBOY as there must have been a profanity laced tirade in front of the charcuterie board but he recovered in time for the afternoon game.  The road to the Super Bowl in the AFC is going through Kansas City.

-Speaking of domination, the Ravens reminded the Texans of who they are, which is a feeble Tier 2, just like the Steelers.

-The Rams did just enough to take care of business against the Cards.  The Cards were poised to wreck all the teasers at the end of the game and keep Seattle alive but Kyler Murray ripped a fast ball of Trey McBride’s face and ended up getting picked off for yet another loss.  Murray did not have a meaningful TD drive when it mattered this entire season.

– Somehow, there was a Thursday night game, and it was likely the ugliest game of the weekend, but Seattle did not keep their playoff hopes alive by winning and not covering against the Bears.  Oh Geno.

– The Chargers are ready for their playoff run and have locked up the 6 seed.  Solid coaching, solid QB play, solid defense. Let’s see what happens.  Hopefully JK Dobbins stays healthy.

-The Bengals also kept hope alive, and ruined one of our Podcast Picks when Cade York doinked one from 40 yards and ended up covering the 3.5 in overtime with a Higgins TD.  Still alive for the 7 seed in the AFC.   Denver will also need to win at Kansas City this weekend to stay alive.

-The Giants spoiled their hopes of the #1 pick by winning a football game yesterday.  The Colts were very much alive for a wildcard going into the game and then QB Richardson didn’t make the start and Joe Flacco and his too-small helmet showed up and started throwing interceptions and the guy in the plane with the banner headed for Teterboro with his tail between his legs.

– The Bills have the #2 seed in the AFC.  And that was going to be the case even if they didn’t play yesterday.  Instead they laid the wood to the Jets and Aaron was disgusted, again.

-Speaking of laying the wood, Baker Mayfield and the Bucs took the panthers behind the woodshed and covered easy while they waited for the outcome of the Falcons game last night.

-The Cowboys were taking money all week in anticipation of another plucky performance and Jalen Hurts not starting for the Eagles added fuel to the fire.  Instead, Saquan and company obliterated the Boys and kept themselves in the conversation for the #1 seed should Detroit trip tonight.

– Miami is still alive.  And DTR should never start another game in the NFL.  At least Myles got three sacks.  Browns get to end their season in Baltimore next week.  Are we having fun yet?

-The Vikings are probably the best dog in the NFC.  Everyone thinks it’s about the Lions and the Eagles but the Vikes look as good as anyone in the league right now and Sam Darnold continues to impress.  Big game this week to possibly decide the division between Vikings and Packers but the Lions hold the tiebreaker if they finish with the same record.

– Michael Penix has arrived.  The rookie had a stellar performance for the Falcons last night converting two fourth down conversions on the final drive of the game including a touchdown.  And another game that should have covered for the Podcast Picks went up in smoke as a coin flip likely decided the Falcons playoff hopes.  They have to change the overtime rules in the NFL.  A coin toss is deciding games again.

Lots of great Bowl Games coming your way in the next three days.  Happy New Year to all of you and we’ll be back at you later this week with another Pod and our final picks of the regular season.

Good luck with your selections.  Go Buckeyes!
