The 2024 Podcast season is off and running as hosts Jack and Cello preview each week and do a recap.  Click here to listen to this week’s Podcast.  We’ll be keeping track of our record in this newsletter just like year.  Last week, a few tough beats as the Titans puked in the 4th quarter and the Rams gave up a TD in overtime to lose a sure cover.  Season recrod is 2-3.  Here are our top 5 for this Sunday.  All lines are from Wannamakeabet.com at the time of this newsletter.

Dallas Cowboys – 6 over New Orleans Saints – We’re not going to over react to the Saints curb stomping the Panthers last week.  And the Cowboys win over Cleveland was solid.  We still have the Saints offensive line ranked 32nd in the league and they will be no match for this Dallas run stop and pass rush today.  Dallas wins easy in the home opener.

New York Jets – 4 over Tennessee Titans

The Jets ran into a buzz saw in the bay last week but this is a great matchup for them as they try and bounce back and get on track today. We have the Titans offensive line ranked 30th and offensive DVOA is 28th; a horrible recipe against this top rated defense.  And Aaron showed enough form in SF to bring optimism that he can execute against a mediocre defense like this one.  Jets get there.

Detroit Lions – 7.5 over Tampa Bay Bucs

The Bucs have a cluster injury in the secondary and both defensive ends are banged up.  That does not bode well for a team facing a powerhouse offensive line like the Lions.  Baker looked good last week against Wash but this is an entirely different pass rush and he’ll be running for his life in the motor city today.

Pittsburgh Steelers -2.5 over Denver Broncos

If Bo Nix threw for 138 yards and two picks against Seattle imagine what’s going to happen to him against Pittsburgh?  We’re going to overlook the “altitude” conversation and historical bad performance by the Steelers in Denver and take Pittsburgh as this is just not a team you want to play when you’re trying to figure things out.   Fields gets his second win as Russ watches from the sidelines.

Houston Texans -6.5 over Chicago Bears

Speaking of trying to figure it out, the Bears got so lucky last week to get a blocked punt and gift of an interception or they may have been shut out by the lowly Titans at home.  It’s all still a little too fast for Caleb Williams.  Next up, Houston’s coming out party at home as one of the top teams in the AFC on national TV with annoying Collingsworth blowing everyone from CJ to Diggs, to the entire Houston sideline.  There’s no stopping this train especially with both Keenan Allen and Odunze hobbled.  This could get ugly.
