Happy Monday! If there ever was a Monday morning when you are happy that you are playing at Wannamakeabet.com instead of with a real bookmaker, this might be it. In this week’s Monday morning QB, we highlight that the heavy favorites were clobbered yesterday. This wreaaked havoc on survivor pools and sports betting accounts across the nation. Today’s Monday Morning Sportsbetting QB looks at the key games that really hurt the sports bettor and gave the books a record haul.
Vikings -17 to Buffalo: Not only were we one of the predictors who thought the Vikings would blow out Buffalo, we thought there was value in only laying 17 points at home. Not so fast. The Bills not only covered the spread they beat the Vikes outright 27-6 in convincing fashion. In the FanDuel survivor pool nearly 60% of the participants had the Vikings. As if you needed yet another reminder of how much parody there is in the NFL, here was yet another reminder that any team can beat another on any given Sunday.
Jacksonville – 10 over Tennessee – Thankfully, we saw this one coming, but the general betting public did not. The Jags lost the game outright to their division rival Titans in a defensive battle that ended up with a final score of 10-9. This game was the ultimate teaser wrecker in addition to knocking out nearly 8% of the people in Survivor pools. When a 10 point dog not only covers the spread but wins outright, it’s a big surprise. But the Jags were inflated due to their win against the Pats the previous week and the public should have seen this one coming.
Houston – 6 over Giants – The lowly Giants looked absolutely awful this season, especially at the offensive line. They routinely could not block fewer rushers than they had on the line. All that ended on Sunday as they beat the Texans in convincing fashion and looked great on both sides of the ball. Teams faced with going 0-3 are desperate. As the stats tell us that only 2% ever make it to the playoffs when they’re 0-3. The Giants were committed to playing a great game and they did. Everyone who bet on the Texans in a two team teaser thinking… “all they have to do is win the game” were sadly mistaken.
New England – 6 over Detroit – The Lions have not looked good this season either, until yesterday. Very few people thought the Patriots would lose two in a row and afterall, the Lions actually got blown out by the Jets this year. But that’s why they play the game. Last night’s matchup between these two was very one sided as the Patriot offense struggled all night and only put up 10 points in a 26-10 loss to the Lions. These aren’t the same Patriots that we’ve seen the past 10 or so years. Bettors beware, there will likely be good value betting against them this season.
