The Teaser King: NFL Week 3 Preview

Week 2 was a rough week for gambling. Our teaser was one of the worst beats I’ve taken in a while, with the Patriots missing the cover by a single point and the over in the Cleveland Browns/New Orleans Saints game by half of a point (in a game in which the Browns kicker missed two field goals and two extra points). For our other bet, I was clearly proven wrong about the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While I thought there was no way those teams would be 2-0 prior to the start of the season, clearly my opinion on those teams was wrong. I will be staying away from betting on or against both of those teams until the season is further along and I know if their success is for real or just early season luck. Despite a slow start to the season, I feel confident in this week’s Teaser King slate of games. Let’s turn this around starting here!

Due to our lack of success in the first two weeks of the season, this week teaser focuses on the best teams in the league through the early part of the season. Sure, the Patriots lost to the Jaguars last week but do you really think Tom Brady and the Pats are going to lose back to back games? Especially against an 0-2 Detroit Lions team that is coached by Belichick disciple Matt Patricia, I think New England is going to use this game to show off that they are still elite.

The Rams appear to be the best team in football and while the Chargers have a ton of talent there is little comparison between the two. Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib have been dominant for the Rams and Phillip Rivers is going to have a tough time throwing the ball because of it. I expect a ton of dump off passes to Melvin Gordon, but that won’t be enough to steal a game from the Rams.
The Chiefs look unstoppable on offense even though their defense needs a lot of work. Still, the 49ers haven’t looked incredibly impressive through two weeks and while I expect a shootout in this game, I can’t picture Jimmy Garropolo being able to match Patrick Mahomes’ insane offensive production.

Green Bay Packers (-150) over Washington Redskins
Chicago Bears (-245) over Arizona Cardinals

Aaron Rodgers is playing on one leg but that doesn’t mean he still isn’t elite. The Packers scored 29 points last week against the best defense in the NFL (albeit to the end result of a tie) while Washington looked lost as they lost 21-9 to the Indianapolis Colts last week. Green Bay should be able to cruise to a win without putting too much on Rodgers.

The Bears have been one of the surprises of the first two weeks. They lost a hard-fought game to the Packers in Week 1 and looked great against the Seahawks on Monday night. Khalil Mack is a complete game changer and since the Cardinals have looked like one of the worst teams in the league I expect another dominant performance from Mack this weekend.
