Saturday NHL Feature – Devils Limp Into Winnipeg – 11/17

By Andrew Lauro – Wannamakeabet Staff Writer

The New Jersey Devils head on the road to face the Winnipeg Jets. The Devils are coming off a tough 1-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Jets are coming off a 3-2 Shootout win against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Devils are leading the Metropolitan Division with a 11-4-3 record totaling 25 points. They are 5-2-3 in their last 10 games. Their road record is very good at 6-1-2. The goaltender Corey Schneider is off to a great start this season. As we approach a quarter of the way into the season his record is 7-3-2 with a GAA of 2.64 and a SV% of .924. In his last 5 games he is 1-2-2 with a GAA of 2.40 and a SV% of .933. Despite his record his numbers are pretty good going into this game against Winnipeg. The Devils are averaging 2.4 GF within the last 5 games. With this being said if Schneider can stay focused while the offense puts up more goals, like the game against Chicago where the Devils could win this game.

The Jets are currently on a 3 game win streak. They are 2nd in the Central Division with an 11-4-3 record totaling 25 points. They are 7-1-2 in their last 10 games. Having a 6-2-1 record at home. Their goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is probably off to the best start of his career with a 10-1-2 record a GAA 2.29 of and a SV% of .930. In his last 5 he is 3-1-1 with a GAA 2.80 of and a SV% of .911. The last 5 don’t look overly impressive because he had two bad performances against the Las Vegas Golden Knights where he gave up 5 goals and was pulled, and an OT game where he gave up 5 against the Montreal Canadiens and received the OT loss. The Jets are averaging 3.4 GF over the past 5 games. Although two of those games were against the worst team in the league the Arizona Coyotes. If Hellebuyck can make key stops and the Jets keep up the offense the Jets can win this game and continue the win streak.

Who’s hot and who’s not? The past 5 games I took the top 3 scorers from each team and see what they’ve done over that span.

Jets                           Goals     Assist

Blake Wheeler  0               7

Mark Scheifele 4               3

Patrick Laine     3               3

Devils                      Goals     Assist

Taylor Hall           1               1

Nico Hischier     1               3

Jesper Bratt        0               1

The Jets look like the better team offensively coming into this game. Take the Jets and lay the -160!
