NFL Week 5 Injury report and expected impact

WannaMakeABet — NFL Week 5

Wednesday Injury & Replacement Report — October 7, 2026

NFL Week 5 injury report – here are the key injuries and impact from every single NFL game from Week 5 of the 2026 season.

Top 5 Injury Headlines

1. Chargers offensive line — biggest depth problem.
Slater OUT + Alt Q + Penning Q creates a legitimate protection issue, not merely an injury-list issue.

2. Lamar Jackson — biggest unresolved individual injury.
If Lamar can’t go, Tyler Huntley is competent but still a significant downgrade. The injured Baltimore OL adds another dimension.

3. Baker Mayfield — biggest confirmed QB downgrade.
He’s out and Jalon Daniels is making NFL start No. 2. That’s already actionable information rather than something we’re monitoring.

4. Eagles offense — biggest injury concentration.
Barkley is Q, Bigsby is going to IR, Goedert is Doubtful, Smith is Q and there are OL injuries. Barkley’s backup situation makes his status more important than it initially appears.

5. Bengals receivers — biggest correlated skill-position situation.
Either Chase or Higgins missing is significant. Both missing is a different handicap entirely..

TB @ DAL — Thursday 8:15 PM

INJURY IMPACT: VERY HIGH

KEY INJURIES — TAMPA BAY

  • Baker Mayfield (TB-QB) — OUT
    • Replacement: Jalon Daniels
    • Replacement Impact: SIGNIFICANT DOWNGRADE
    • Daniels is an undrafted rookie making his second NFL start. In his first start against Green Bay he went 19-of-27 for 148 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT while adding 55 rushing yards. Tampa has already confirmed Daniels will start Thursday. His mobility is useful, but this is a substantial experience/passing downgrade from Mayfield.
  • Antoine Winfield Jr. (TB-S) — OUT
    • Important defensive loss, but no individual replacement analysis necessary.

ALSO BANGED UP — TAMPA BAY
SirVocea Dennis (TB-LB) — Q; Ko Kieft (TB-TE) — Q; Chase McLaughlin (TB-K) — Q; Benjamin Morrison (TB-CB) — Q; Anthony Nelson (TB-LB) — Q.

KEY INJURIES — DALLAS
Cobie Durant (DAL-CB) — Doubtful; DeMarvion Overshown (DAL-LB) — Doubtful; Drew Shelton (DAL-OT) — Doubtful.

PODCAST NOTE: This isn’t a “keep an eye on Baker” situation anymore. Tampa is starting an undrafted rookie QB on a short week. Daniels showed enough mobility and poise in his debut that I wouldn’t treat him as completely incapable, but the passing-game downgrade is real. Tampa also loses Winfield on defense.

PICKS IMPLICATION: Account for Daniels as the starter now rather than waiting until game time.

PHI @ JAX — Sunday 9:30 AM

INJURY IMPACT: HIGH

KEY INJURIES — PHILADELPHIA

  • Saquon Barkley (PHI-RB) — Q, hamstring
    • If Out: Will Shipley becomes the primary replacement
    • Replacement Impact: SIGNIFICANT
    • This is more concerning than an ordinary RB1 injury because Tank Bigsby, Philadelphia’s No. 2, is going on IR. Shipley is currently the only healthy RB on the active roster, with former Houston starter Dameon Pierce a possible practice-squad elevation.
  • Dallas Goedert (PHI-TE) — Doubtful
  • DeVonta Smith (PHI-WR) — Q
  • Cam Jurgens (PHI-G) — Q
  • Fred Johnson (PHI-OT) — Q
  • Quinyon Mitchell (PHI-CB) — Q
  • Zack Baun (PHI-LB) — Q
  • Jonathan Greenard (PHI-LB) — Q

ALSO BANGED UP — PHILADELPHIA
Hollywood Brown (PHI-WR) — Q; Marcus Epps (PHI-S) — Q.

KEY INJURIES — JACKSONVILLE
No major likely absence currently.

ALSO BANGED UP — JACKSONVILLE
Montaric Brown (JAX-CB) — Q; Eric Murray (JAX-S) — Q.

PODCAST NOTE: Philadelphia is a great example of why we need more than the Q designation. Barkley being Questionable is important; Barkley being Questionable while RB2 Tank Bigsby is headed to IR is considerably more important. The Eagles also have injuries across WR, TE and OL. That’s meaningful offensive concentration even if several Q players ultimately suit up.

PICKS IMPLICATION: Barkley’s Friday status is important. Also watch Jurgens/Johnson because an RB downgrade combined with OL attrition would compound the problem.

CLE @ NYJ — Sunday 1:00 PM

INJURY IMPACT: HIGH

KEY INJURIES — CLEVELAND
Elgton Jenkins (CLE-C) — Q; Teven Jenkins (CLE-G) — Q; Mason Graham (CLE-DT) — Q.

ALSO BANGED UP — CLEVELAND
Tylan Wallace (CLE-WR) — Q.

KEY INJURIES — NY JETS

  • Breece Hall (NYJ-RB) — Doubtful
    • Replacement: Braelon Allen
    • Replacement Impact: MODERATE-TO-SIGNIFICANT
    • Allen is Hall’s established primary backup rather than an emergency replacement. He had 61 rushing yards and a TD on 19 carries through the first three weeks before Hall’s injury.
  • Adonai Mitchell (NYJ-WR) — Doubtful
  • Mason Taylor (NYJ-TE) — Doubtful
  • Braiden McGregor (NYJ-DE) — OUT
  • Dylan Parham (NYJ-G) — Q

ALSO BANGED UP — NY JETS
Jarvis Brownlee (NYJ-CB) — Q; Kingsley Enagbare (NYJ-DE) — Q; Kiko Mauigoa (NYJ-LB) — Q.

PODCAST NOTE: Hall by himself would be manageable because Allen is a legitimate NFL backup. The bigger issue is the accumulation: Hall, Mitchell and Taylor are all Doubtful, potentially removing three offensive starters simultaneously.

PICKS IMPLICATION: Don’t overreact solely to Hall. React if the Jets actually lose Hall + Mitchell + Taylor together.

CHI @ GB — Sunday 1:00 PM

INJURY IMPACT: HIGH

KEY INJURIES — CHICAGO

  • Caleb Williams (CHI-QB) — OUT
    • Replacement: Tyson Bagent
    • Replacement Impact: MODERATE DOWNGRADE
    • Bagent isn’t an unknown emergency QB. Chicago has named him the starter, and last week he completed 25-of-34 for a career-high 268 yards in a 23-12 win over the Jets. He’s appeared in 14 NFL games and Chicago gave him a two-year extension in the offseason.

ALSO BANGED UP — CHICAGO
Kyle Monangai (CHI-RB) — Q; Cam Lewis (CHI-S) — Q.

KEY INJURIES — GREEN BAY
Aaron Banks (GB-G) — Q; Jacob Monk (GB-G) — Q.

ALSO BANGED UP — GREEN BAY
Chris Brooks (GB-RB) — Q; Anthony Campbell (GB-DT) — Q; Brandon Cisse (GB-CB) — Q.

PODCAST NOTE: This is an important distinction from Tampa. Both teams are using backup QBs, but Bagent is a substantially more proven replacement than Jalon Daniels. Chicago has already won with him, and he operated the offense effectively last week.

PICKS IMPLICATION: Williams being OUT is meaningful, but don’t handicap Chicago as though it’s starting an untested QB.

CIN @ MIA — Sunday 1:00 PM

INJURY IMPACT: HIGH

KEY INJURIES — CINCINNATI

  • Ja’Marr Chase (CIN-WR) — Q, concussion
  • Tee Higgins (CIN-WR) — Q, adductor
    • Replacement situation if either/both sit: SIGNIFICANT
    • Andrei Iosivas is Cincinnati’s established WR3. The issue becomes considerably larger if both Chase and Higgins are unavailable rather than one. Higgins is currently considered day-to-day and could play; Chase must progress through concussion protocol.
  • B.J. Hill (CIN-DT) — Q
  • Kyle Dugger (CIN-S) — Q
  • Bryan Cook (CIN-S) — Q

ALSO BANGED UP — CINCINNATI
Colbie Young (CIN-WR) — Q; Swayze Bozeman (CIN-LB) — Q.

KEY INJURIES — MIAMI
Reese Taylor (MIA-CB) — OUT.

PODCAST NOTE: This is a correlation injury. One starting WR out is manageable. Chase and Higgins both out would fundamentally change Cincinnati’s passing offense. Higgins just produced 11 catches for 157 yards last week, so his current day-to-day prognosis is encouraging.

PICKS IMPLICATION: Chase clearing concussion protocol is probably the single most important Cincinnati update.

LV @ NE — Sunday 1:00 PM

INJURY IMPACT: MEDIUM

KEY INJURIES — LAS VEGAS
Jackson Powers-Johnson (LV-G) — Q; Trey Zuhn (LV-C) — Q.

KEY INJURIES — NEW ENGLAND
Christian Gonzalez (NE-CB) — Q; Christian Barmore (NE-DT) — Q.

ALSO BANGED UP — NEW ENGLAND
Channing Canada (NE-CB) — Q; Charles Woods (NE-CB) — Q; Mack Hollins (NE-WR) — Q; Eli Raridon (NE-TE) — Q.

PODCAST NOTE: No replacement analysis yet because nobody here warrants assuming an absence Wednesday. What matters is unit concentration: Vegas has G+C issues and New England has three CBs listed.

PICKS IMPLICATION: Monitor rather than adjust aggressively today.

MIN @ NO — Sunday 1:00 PM

INJURY IMPACT: HIGH

KEY INJURIES — MINNESOTA

  • Justin Jefferson (MIN-WR) — Q, ankle
    • Replacement Impact if Out: SIGNIFICANT
    • Minnesota managed without him last week, but there isn’t a true one-for-one replacement for Jefferson. Of note, Minnesota has a bye immediately after this game, and Kevin O’Connell has acknowledged the possibility of giving Jefferson the extra recovery time.
  • Christian Darrisaw (MIN-LT) — Q, concussion
    • Replacement Analysis: IMPORTANT
    • LT gets automatic attention in our system because the replacement affects protection across the offense.

ALSO BANGED UP — MINNESOTA
Charles Demmings (MIN-CB) — Q; Brett Thorson (MIN-P) — Q.

KEY INJURIES — NEW ORLEANS
Carl Granderson (NO-LB) — Q; Kaden Elliss (NO-LB) — Q; Anfernee Jennings (NO-LB) — Q.

PODCAST NOTE: Jefferson is the name everyone notices, but Darrisaw could be equally important to the handicap. And Minnesota has a strategic reason not to rush Jefferson: a Week 6 bye could turn one missed game into almost two additional weeks of recovery.

PICKS IMPLICATION: Watch both Jefferson and Darrisaw—not merely Jefferson.

HOU @ TEN — Sunday 1:00 PM

INJURY IMPACT: LOW

KEY INJURIES — HOUSTON
Azeez Al-Shaair (HOU-LB) — Q.

ALSO BANGED UP — HOUSTON
Jaden Crumedy (HOU-DT) — Q.

TENNESSEE
No significant current actionable injuries from the supplied list.

PODCAST NOTE: This is one where you can legitimately say injuries aren’t materially affecting our handicap right now.

NYG @ WAS — Sunday 1:00 PM

INJURY IMPACT: MEDIUM-HIGH — IMPROVING

KEY INJURIES — NY GIANTS
Braxton Berrios (NYG-WR) — OUT.

KEY INJURIES — WASHINGTON

  • Jayden Daniels (WAS-QB) — Q, elbow
    • CURRENT TREND: STRONGLY POSITIVE
    • Washington now expects Daniels to practice fully and start Sunday.
  • Marcus Mariota (WAS-QB) — Doubtful/MCL
    • Backup if Daniels starts: Athan Kaliakmanis
    • Replacement Impact if Daniels suffers a setback: MAJOR DOWNGRADE
    • Kaliakmanis is a seventh-round rookie who went 15-of-33 for 186 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT after Mariota was injured last week.
  • Terry McLaurin (WAS-WR) — Q
  • Sam Cosmi (WAS-G) — Q

ALSO BANGED UP — WASHINGTON
Rachaad White (WAS-RB) — Q; Charles Omenihu (WAS-DE) — Q; Nick Cross (WAS-S) — Q; Tyler Owens (WAS-S) — Q; Jeremy Reaves (WAS-S) — Q.

PODCAST NOTE: This has improved substantially since the raw injury file. Daniels being Q initially looked dangerous because Mariota is hurt too. But Washington expects Daniels to practice fully and start. The important wrinkle remains that the safety net behind Daniels is now a seventh-round rookie rather than Mariota.

PICKS IMPLICATION: If Daniels practices fully as expected, downgrade this injury concern. If he unexpectedly regresses, it becomes VERY HIGH immediately.

IND @ PIT — Sunday 1:00 PM

INJURY IMPACT: MEDIUM

KEY INJURIES — INDIANAPOLIS
Arden Key (IND-DE) — OUT; Keenan Allen (IND-WR) — Q.

KEY INJURIES — PITTSBURGH
Jamel Dean (PIT-CB) — Doubtful.

ALSO BANGED UP
Jaylon Carlies (IND-LB) — Q; Rico Dowdle (PIT-RB) — Q.

PODCAST NOTE: No replacement situation currently important enough to warrant spending airtime on the backup. This is exactly the kind of game where our filter keeps the report from becoming noise.

DEN @ LAC — Sunday 4:05 PM

INJURY IMPACT: VERY HIGH — MAJOR DEPTH ALERT

KEY INJURIES — DENVER
Patrick Surtain II (DEN-CB) — Doubtful; Pat Bryant (DEN-WR) — Doubtful; Riley Moss (DEN-CB) — Q.

KEY INJURIES — LA CHARGERS

  • Rashawn Slater (LAC-LT) — OUT/high ankle sprain
    • Replacement situation: MAJOR CONCERN
  • Joe Alt (LAC-RT) — Q, neck
    • Replacement: Travis Burke
  • Trevor Penning (LAC-G) — Q/concussion
  • Kayode Awosika (LAC-G) — Q
  • Ladd McConkey (LAC-WR) — Q
  • Derwin James (LAC-S) — Q

DEPTH ALERT — CHARGERS OL
The official depth chart lists Travis Burke and Alex Harkey as the backup tackles. When Slater went down Sunday, rookie Logan Taylor moved to LT. Burke had already replaced Alt at RT and played 49 snaps. The Chargers finished with an OL of Taylor–Slaughter–Spomer–Strange–Burke, with four rookies involved.

PFF now ranks the Chargers offensive line 29th in the NFL entering Week 5.

PODCAST NOTE: This is probably the most meaningful non-QB injury situation on the entire board. It’s not simply “Slater is out.” Slater is out, Alt is hurt, Penning is in concussion protocol and the Chargers may again be forced into a major OL reshuffle.

PICKS IMPLICATION: Before betting LAC, I want to know whether Alt plays and what the starting five actually looks like. This could materially affect Justin Herbert’s protection and the entire Chargers offense.

DET @ ARI — Sunday 4:25 PM

INJURY IMPACT: MEDIUM

KEY INJURIES — DETROIT
Rock Ya-Sin (DET-CB) — Doubtful; Ben Bartch (DET-G) — Q.

KEY INJURIES — ARIZONA
Jeremiyah Love (ARI-RB) — Q.

ALSO BANGED UP — ARIZONA
Isaiah Adams (ARI-G) — Q; Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (ARI-S) — Q; Andrew Wingard (ARI-S) — Q.

PODCAST NOTE: Some secondary depth concerns, particularly Arizona’s safety room, but nothing currently screams handicap-changing replacement.

SF @ SEA — Sunday 4:25 PM

INJURY IMPACT: HIGH

KEY INJURIES — SAN FRANCISCO

  • Nick Bosa (SF-DE) — Doubtful
  • James Thompson (SF-DT) — Doubtful
  • Kyle Juszczyk (SF-FB) — Doubtful
  • Marques Sigle (SF-S) — Doubtful

KEY INJURIES — SEATTLE
Leonard Williams (SEA-DE) — Q.

ALSO BANGED UP — SEATTLE
Ty Okada (SEA-S) — Q; Chazz Surratt (SEA-LB) — Q.

PODCAST NOTE: This is primarily unit replacement rather than individual replacement. Bosa plus Thompson potentially removes two pieces of the SF defensive front. Juszczyk also has an unusually important offensive role for a fullback, so his absence isn’t equivalent to losing a routine FB. His injury is believed to be a knee sprain.

PICKS IMPLICATION: If Bosa and Thompson both remain Doubtful Friday, account for the front-seven downgrade rather than focusing only on the Bosa headline.

BAL @ ATL — Sunday 8:20 PM

INJURY IMPACT: VERY HIGH

KEY INJURIES — BALTIMORE

  • Lamar Jackson (BAL-QB) — Q, ankle
    • Replacement: Tyler Huntley
    • Replacement Impact: SIGNIFICANT DOWNGRADE
    • Huntley isn’t inexperienced: he’s made 11 previous Baltimore starts and is 5-6 in those games. He went 8-of-9 for 63 yards replacing Lamar last Sunday. That makes him a capable backup, but the loss of Jackson would still fundamentally change Baltimore’s offense.
  • Ronnie Stanley (BAL-LT) — Q
  • Andrew Vorhees (BAL-G) — Q
  • Trey Hendrickson (BAL-LB) — Q
  • Marlon Humphrey (BAL-CB) — Q
  • Durham Smythe (BAL-TE) — OUT

ALSO BANGED UP — BALTIMORE
Chris Moore (BAL-WR) — Q.

KEY INJURIES — ATLANTA
Jake Matthews (ATL-LT) — Q; Za’Darius Smith (ATL-LB) — Q.

PODCAST NOTE: Lamar is the week’s biggest player to monitor. The current reporting is more concerning than a generic Q: Baltimore says the injury isn’t believed to be long-term, but reports indicate his Week 5 availability is genuinely in jeopardy. Huntley is a credible backup—not Jalon Daniels-level inexperienced—but he’s still a significant downgrade from Jackson.

There’s a second layer: Stanley and Vorhees are also banged up. Even if Lamar plays, his mobility behind a compromised OL matters when he’s returning from an ankle injury.

PICKS IMPLICATION: I would be very reluctant to finalize a Baltimore opinion Wednesday without knowing Lamar’s practice status.

BUF @ LAR — Monday 8:15 PM

INJURY IMPACT: HIGH

KEY INJURIES — BUFFALO
Christian Benford (BUF-CB) — Q; Ed Oliver (BUF-DT) — Q; T.J. Sanders (BUF-DT) — Q.

ALSO BANGED UP — BUFFALO
Dee Alford (BUF-CB) — Q; DJ Moore (BUF-WR) — Q.

KEY INJURIES — LA RAMS
Aaron Donald (LAR-DT) — Q; Jaylen Watson (LAR-CB) — Q.

ALSO BANGED UP — LA RAMS
Colby Parkinson (LAR-TE) — Q; Konata Mumpfield (LAR-WR) — Q.

PODCAST NOTE: No single replacement merits a deep dive yet. Buffalo’s concern is clustering: two DTs and two CBs are carrying injuries. Because this is Monday night, there’s also an additional recovery day.

PICKS IMPLICATION: Monitor the Buffalo defense as a unit rather than treating any one Q as an assumed absence.
