Arizona / ASU Preview – The Duel in the Desert

Arizona / ASU Preview – The Duel in the Desert

This Friday at 3:00 PM ET Arizona State will make the short trip over to Tucson to take on the Arizona Wildcats. Both of these teams have had wild seasons in their own ways. The Sun Devils have gone through it all this season. They have had investigations into their school, coaches fired and players leaving. Overall it has been a very disappointing season. For the Wildcats although they will not be bowling, they have exceeded a lot of people’s expectations this year and have been a lot more competitive than in years past.

While you can make the argument that these teams may want to pack it in for their final game especially ASU, I don’t think that is the case. I think both of these teams will want to end on a high note and regardless of how your season went there is no better feeling then beating your rival school.

ASU has been searching for an answer at QB. Emory Jones did not live up to the expectations and as a result Bourguet as seen a lot of playing time. Both of these QB’s have had great games and bad games. Bourguet will likely get the start in this one. The bright spot on this Sun Devils team have been from the skill position with transfer Xazavian Valladay who has rushed for over 1000 yards and 14 TD’s. ASU has struggled the past two games against but now they will face a defense that is not very good and allows a lot of points. I think ASU will have success on offense on the ground and will set up some easy throws.

Arizona has relied solely on their offense this year. They are averaging 30 points a game! Transfer Jayden de Laura has been huge for them at the QB position throwing for 25 touchdowns. They haven’t relied too much on the ground game, but their backs have been effective when called on. Out wide Singer and Cowing each have gone over the 1000-yard mark receiving. They have a very favorable matchup today.

You may have noticed I have spent most of this time talking about the offenses and little about the defenses. That is cause these defenses are not very good. Both allowing well over 30 points a game and well over 400 yards a game ranking near the bottom of the country. I think this game has OVER written all over it. ASU has all the reason to just fold after the season they have had but I think the rivalry will get the juices flowing for one last game. I think both of these offenses have success and one of these teams will hit 40 points in this one.
