Monday Night Superbowl Preview? Chiefs – Rams

Is tonight a Monday Night Superbowl preview?  Perhaps, as we have a gem on our hands with the best of the AFC versus the best of the NFC with the Rams and the Chiefs.   Here’s who we think will cash sports betting tickets this evening on both the game and the total.

The Game

The Rams’ only loss of the year came against the Saints, who remain their biggest threat in the NFC.  Meanwhile the Patriots handed Kansas City their only defeat in a classic matchup in Foxboro. Aside from those two blemishes – against very good competition – these two sides have been unstoppable. The Chiefs are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games overall and are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 meetings against the Rams.

On the flip side of the ball, the Rams are  1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings against a team with a winning record and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall.  Clearly this favors the Chiefs.  But we think the data is seeking balance here and the Rams are due to get this win and level out their ATS record.  Looking at all angles and data,  I believe both teams have outstanding offenses but only one has an outstanding defense, and that’s the Rams.  I’ll take the Rams minus the 3 and hope they have enough to get it done at home in front of their fans.

The Pick: Rams -3

The Total.  The total in this game has come down from the opening number of 63.5 or 64, but is still on pace to close as the highest sports betting total in NFL history. The Chiefs have played to the Over in six of their last seven road games. The Rams meanwhile have gone Over in 10 of their last 14 after allowing more than 350 yards of total offense in their previous game and in four of their last five against a team with a winning record. This total probably won’t be matched again this season, but with the way the offenses of both teams have been playing, most are expecting a high scoring affair.  This is a perfect time to be a contrarian and take the Under.  As hard as it is to imagine rooting for an Under between two of the highest scoring offenses in the NFL, we think that’s exactly what is in store for us tonight, a low scoring game.

The Total Pick: Under 62.5
