After getting rained out yesterday the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles look to take the field on this Friday to kick off June. After Memorial Day you have a more accurate feel for who each team is. At this point, it is very obvious that the Yankees are one of the top teams in baseball, and very obvious the O’s will be looking to trade any talent they have in order to begin their rebuild.
Andrew Cashner has been awful this season, and this is not the lineup that a struggling pitcher wants to face. Stanton has struggled in his career vs. Cashner going just 1 for 10, however, we all know that all it takes is one swing for him to send the ball a long way. Cashner has given up seven long balls to lefties on the season, so look for either Didi or Bird (if in the lineup) to get to Cashner.
Sonny Gray has not been able to live up to the hype that surrounded him when New York acquired him. He has had a pretty rough season with a few good starts sprinkled in there. Unlike the Yankees lineup, Gray gets an easy test with the Orioles only producing 8 runs in their last 6 games. Even if they are able to make it click tonight, I just can’t imagine them being able to score more runs than the Bronx Bombers.
Prediction: New York Yankees -1.5 over the Baltimore Orioles.
