Prediction provided by baseball analyst Tommy Lynch
It was a heartbreaking defeat in Game 1 for a Mariners team that was playing some of their best baseball of the season and looking to take a 1-0 advantage on the Houston Astros. They dominated the game from the jump piling runs on Verlander something no one expected to happen.
However, the trusted Mariners bullpen felt the pressure of the ALDS and the go to combo of Munoz/Sewald gave up 4 runs. Before a controversial decision by Manager Scott Servais who brought out a struggling Robbie Ray to try to close it. Which led to a 430ft Homer from Yordan Alvarez and that’s all she wrote. And that brings us to our Mariners / Astros Game 2 Prediction.
Game 2 Prediction
We move on to game 2 of this series where Framber Valdez will face off against Luis Castillo. Two of the better pitchers in the league. I think we need to be taking a look at the First 5 under 3.5 in this spot. Framber Valdez has the highest ground ball rate to go along with one of the lowest HR rates in the league. He keeps the ball in the park which is what we want when backing an under.
This Mariners offense has been rolling but one would have to think losing that game 1 will take a little wind out of their sails. Luis Castillo has been very solid his past 2 outings especially in Toronto where he went 7.1IP 6H 0ER 5K. I think Castillo is locked in and has what it takes to hold this dangerous Astros lineup in check for 5 innings. Our First Play will be First 5 Innings Under 3.5. I think the biggest advantage in Game 2 is the bullpen for the Houston Astros.
The Mariners have used Munoz their best reliever in all 3 games so far, he may have shown signs of fatigue in Game 1 after struggling. Seawald who is arguably their 2 nd best reliever has been used in the last 2 games and has not looked right giving up 6 runs. Meanwhile you have an Astros bullpen who
has been rested and will have everyone available for tonight’s game. If the bats stay in check like I think they will, and this becomes a bullpen game. Advantage Astros. I will take the Astros ML -155, First 5 Innings Under 3.5, and the Astros ML -155.
