- Friday, June 6th. France vs South Korea
The French and South Koreans have met each other only once. That game happened at the 2015 Women’s World Cup. France won 3-0. If recent form is any indication, France should beat South Korea by a 3-0 score again.
The South Koreans have gone 0-1-4 in their last 5 matches. Even if we discount the 6-0 beating by the U.S. in 2017, the South Koreans have gone 0-1-3. The lone draw happened versus Iceland 1-1 in April.
France has won all 5 of their matches this year. One of the wins was 3-1 over women’s soccer power Japan back on April 4. The French should score easily and win this Friday.
The Pick: France
- Saturday, June 8th – Germany vs China
This should be a much tighter match than many realize. Germany will go off the favorite. The Germans have 3 wins and 2 draws in their last 5 matches. The 2 draws were against Japan and Spain. The win was versus Chile and Sweden. Germany also beat France back in February.
China has 2 losses in their last 5 matches. The most recent was 1-2 to France on May 31. The other loss happened against the U.S. back in June last year. The Chinese appear to be much stronger in 2019 than they were in 2018. And I think they can force Germany into a draw and there’s great value in the bet.
The Pick: Draw +379
- Spain vs South Africa
Spain is in good enough form to contend for the Women’s World Cup this summer. The Spanish have a 2-2-1 record. The loss happened to England 1-2 on April 9. The 2 draws were against Canada and Japan while Spain beat Cameroon 4-0 and Brazil 2-1.
South Africa has gone 0-2-3 this year. In their last match on June 2 before the World Cup, Norway dominated them 7-2. South Africa appears to be quite overmatched here and I think Spain hammers them this week.
The Pick: Spain -870
- Sunday, June 9th. Australia vs Italy
Australia heads into the 2019 Women’s World Cup on a 2-match losing streak. That shouldn’t take anything away from what they accomplished earlier this year. The Australians were 3-0 before losing 1-2 to the U.S. and 0-3 to the Netherlands.
Italy has gone 4-1-0 in their 5 matches this year, though. The Italians beat Chile, Switzerland, Ireland and Wales. They drew with Poland. Although Italy looks formidable, Australia stood up to the U.S. They can bounce back from the loss to the Netherlands. I like the Aussies in a draw here.
The Pick: Australia 0.5 (-131)
