And then there were four. This is perhaps the best weekend of the NFL at Wannamakeabet.com because we have two football games and they are both setting up to be incredible games without a huge favorite. And there are so many private leagues at the site coming down to the wire this weekend. The action will be incredible. If you’re not a member yet, join now, there’s plenty of time to get into the NFL Playoffs League as well. Let’s start with the AFC Championship game prediction against the spread. What a story we have in this one.
There are so many headlines: Patrick Mahomes vs. Tom Brady. The future of the league versus the GOAT. A former first-round pick vs. the quintessential late-round success story. Andy Reid versus Bill Belichick. Oh and throw in frigid cold temperatures just to make things more interesting. Will that impact the over? We shall see. Here’s the spread at Wannamakeabet.com:
New England Patriots +3 O/U 54.5 at Kansas City Chiefs
Belichick owned Reid when Andy ran the Eagles and beat him in Reid’s only Super Bowl appearance. Reid is 2-2 against the Patriots since arriving in Kansas City but has never beaten Bill Belichick in the playoffs. That’s not really a huge issue, since they’ve only played twice and who hasn’t struggled against Belichick in the playoffs. But there’s something more. Reid wants a Super Bowl badly. Many, like me, feel like he’s due. He’s got many years left, and I’m not saying this will be his best chance, but it sure as hell is setting up nicely for him to get there again this year.
Eric Berry didn’t play against the Colts but could be back for this massive matchup, especially knowing a win would give them a two-week cushion to get ready for the Super Bowl. Justin Houston didn’t play in New England during the regular season. That is a big deal. Josh Gordon had an impact in the first game and won’t play for the Patriots.
I don’t think they can do it. Mahomes and the Chiefs offense hasn’t slowed down all year and they aren’t going to start now. And the defense was so impressive last week against the Colts, who arguably were playing better than the Patriots are right now. The will-be MVP Mahomes got his first taste of a playoff atmosphere against the Colts on Saturday afternoon and he did not flinch. He’s ready for this. Chiefs win and get Andy to the big dance.
