The 2018 NCAAF Season has already provided huge surprises. Coach Urban Meyer might not be on the sidelines once Week 1 starts. That’s actually where the 10 predictions for the 2018 College Football season begins, with Mayer’s soon to be release from coaching the Ohio State Buckeyes.
So, without further adieu, here are the 10 bold betting predictions for the 2018 NCAAF Season!
1. With Meyer no longer at Ohio State, the Buckeyes will lose 3 to 4 games.
Ohio State remains a +100 favorite to win the Big Ten this season. Even before Urban Meyer was placed on administrative leave, the Buckeyes were a lukewarm, at best, favorite. Now that Meyer is almost assuredly gone, the Buckeyes could have a down season in Columbus.
Losses to Penn State, Michigan, and Michigan State are more than likely. Beating TCU on Sep. 15 isn’t a given.
2. Georgia won’t win the SEC East Division
The Bulldogs are a favorite to win the SEC, but they must replace close to their entire defense. They must also replace running backs Sony Michel and Nick Chubb. Coaching changes at Florida and Tennessee, plus an improved South Carolina, means that Georgia won’t even win the SEC East much less the SEC.
3. Clemson will go undefeated
Clemson plays in what’s usually a deep conference, the ACC. This season, Florida State could be a mess while Miami is overrated. If Clemson beats Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship, they’ll go undefeated into the College Football Playoff.
4. It will be a down season for the Oklahoma Sooners
Losing Baker Mayfield is a big deal. Not only that, but like it was last season, the Big 12 is deep. Oklahoma is at Iowa State, at TCU, at Texas Tech, and at West Virginia. They could lose all 4 of those games.
5. Like Clemson, Washington will go undefeated
Like Clemson, the Washington Huskies will go undefeated up until the College Football Playoff. The Huskies battle down Pac 12 squads while this is the best Washington team coach Chris Petersen has ever had.
6. Alabama will repeat as National Champions
It’s tough to repeat as National Champions, but the Alabama Crimson Tide will do it. First, they get rival Auburn in Tuscaloosa this season. Second, they have an easier schedule this season than last season. Finally, the defense is reloaded while the offense is close to a mirror of what it was last season.
7. New Pac 12 coaches will rock it in 2018
New Pac 12 coaches Chip Kelly at UCLA and Kevin Sumlin at Arizona will rock it this season. Kelly could win 9 to 10 games. Sumlin should win 9 to 10 games.
8. Central Florida will go undefeated again
The Central Florida Knights were awesome in 2017. Sure, they changed coaches, but look who they changed coaches too? Josh Huepel is every bit an offensive genius as Scott Frost. Plus, the AAC doesn’t have a single team that can handle the Knights.
9. Penn State will win the Big Ten and garner a College Football Playoff spot
Penn State lost RB Saquon Barkley. That won’t be an issue because QB Trace McSorley returns. The offensive line returns 4 starters while the defensive line should be very good. Ohio State will be down if Meyer is fired, Michigan doesn’t have a great offensive line, and Wisconsin’s defense should have some issues this season.
10. West Virginia Mountaineers QB Will Grier will win the Heisman Trophy
West Virginia should have the top offense in the nation this year. The Mountaineers could average close to 60 points per game. That means Grier will pass for around 3 to 4 TDs and for over 300 yards every game. Grier’s a lock for the Heisman Trophy.
