Jake Arrieta has done just about everything he can to really make the Cubs regret not resigning him this offseason. Jake had a phenomenal month of may, with only one hiccup mixed in there, he was able to go 30 innings and only allow 3 ER. He’s not overpowering guys with the strikeout like he used to, however with great command he is just getting guys out and not allowing the long ball.
Dereck Rodriguez, son of great catcher Pudge Rodriguez, will make his first start today. Since being promoted he has made one appearance, going 3.1 innings and allowing one run. The problem with Dereck is that he is a converted outfielder, and now pitching. Not that it has never been done before, however he definitely lacks the experience of others when called upon to make their debuts, and this is not a friendly lineup that will be very welcoming to Dereck. I look for him to get out to a nice start, but as soon as he gets into trouble maybe making a few mistakes and paying the price for it. This lineup is just too overpowering for someone who is still working on their craft.
Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 over the San Francisco Giants
