As the NFL comes to a close other sports are trying to make news where once the NFL flourished and was the talk at the watercooler – if you have one at work – on Monday and Tuesday mornings. The biggest news stories that I have run into…..Wait, I just saw this, that Tyler Hilinski (WSU back up QB) was found dead in his apartment (apparent suicide). So, this calls into question some things that I have thought about in my past. Not only as someone who has seen a lot of suicides but as I served in the military I helped many men and women through their tough times.
Even though life may throw curve balls at you it does not mean you quit. You keep trying, you keep at life until you pass away due to natural causes. You have to build up your circle of trust. You have to actually get out there and talk to people, you have to trust those you are with that they would have your best interest at heart. It isn’t tough to care and be empathetic towards others situations. I would ask that everyone that reads this to do something, I would ask each person to put away your electronics for one weekend and actually go and meet people, take the time to actually read a book (What’s That?) or actually listen to a CD (Once again what is that?) or interact with your spouse or kids WITHOUT your electronics. Try to pick up a man or woman. . . .Yes, actually use really bad pick-up lines and just talk to people. What would it hurt? Would you get turned down or maybe you would actually make a connection (What is that?).
So, with that said, I also found out who Arron Rogers is dating….Oh Wow! Who cares? My oh my. I was going to say something about the NBA and Lebron James. I was going to say something about the Golden Knights and the US Army. But, does anyone care that Arron Rogers is dating Danica Patrick? So, what is the big deal? It isn’t, people date and get together and do things, relationships happen and then they do not. But, due to my abysmal fantasy football record, I am curious if Arron Rogers will be my pick for next year?
Okay, on a brighter note, across the United States for several years the VA has helped with forming All Veteran’s Ice Hockey Team’s that are in various cities across this land. Each team has a mixture of veterans from the 5 departments within the Department of Defense. Each person who is on the team brings their own level of skill to play ice hockey. After building each team and through months of scrimmage games and practices there is a week of championship games to find out who the national champion will become. These games will be played the first week in April. It is an exciting time because all skaters with varying skill sets and backgrounds will be competing for the championship trophy, cup, or something else to be taken back to the city in which the players reside. It is also exciting because the veterans will be meeting up with other vets that they served with and re-kindling old memories and talking BS. It is one of those things that if you were in the military you understand and if you were not then you can see where men and women can come together play a game and be part of something greater than the uniform we each put on and served this great country we call home.
