Week 12: The games to stay far away from
Every week there is a new opportunity to win big or lose big. While many people will give you their “locks” for the week, I’m here to show you what games to steer clear of.
Most of the time, when you’re in a bar or just shooting the breeze with a coworker, you hear the success stories of the weekend. “Oh Dan, I had this four-team parlay that I hit big on this weekend! You should’ve seen it.” This coming from a guy who’s lost for the past three weeks and is still in the red.
What is commonly misunderstood is that being a winner for the season is not what bets you hit on, but what big losses you were able to avoid. So, here are my games to stay away from:
New York Giants at Washington Redskins (Redskins -7.5)
This game I wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot poll. The Giants (2-8) are coming off an impressive win over the Kansas City Chiefs last week and could be on the rise. Meanwhile, the Redskins (4-6) had a heartbreaking loss at New Orleans where they blew a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter. Basically, we have no idea who is going to show up for either team. I rarely like taking a team, that is below .500, to cover, but in this situation, I’m even less interested. And as far as the Giants go, picking with confidence on a two-win team is never a good idea. Good luck if you’re picking this one, but I’m staying away.
New Orleans Saints at St. Louis Rams (Rams -2.5)
Talk about a toss-up. This game features two of the top teams in the NFC, but I’m very skeptical of both. The Saints are coming off that big win over the Redskins, but they didn’t look good for much of that game. The fact they’re on the road and not getting many points keeps me far away from picking them.
The Rams are a whole different story. They lost Robert Woods for a few weeks, which will make Cooper Kupp their number one receiver, yikes. Also, their run defense has been one of the worst all year and the Saints can run the ball extremely well. Stay away.
